World Cup Bug has bit me...

So the World Cup has been going on for a couple weeks, and unfortunately it is almost over. But I have been keeping myself entertained by collecting stickers and placing them in the official Panini sticker album. So far the Brazilian team is almost complete

Final Essay Project

So this year has been a wild ride with its peaks and really steep drops and others that are small. The year is not over yet because we still have the "finals" stretch. But we got through this year and I am thankful that I am graduating with the corresponding class of 2014.  But this post isn`t about my ride through the institution turned mutant that we Americans call school.

I believe that we had had our moments where Dr. Preston would want to just throw a fit for us being late. Or when we weren`t on our blog trying to do assignments that he asked for. Those moments I am not deserved to have been part of because I was also part of the bandwagon, with the rest of the Expository Composition students

Before I had some idea about being someone in the sustainable earth job sector but it really didn`t stick. It was almost like a dream or just like a hobby. Now that I didn`t have an idea of what to do for his Masterpiece Project, that little conscoius in the back of my head brought a picture or a still moment in time and I had a light bulb moment. The next challenge was to put that idea, with the knowledge given to me from my AP Environmental Science class, into action and into actually something visual. This combination mixed together and it brought me to the conclusion that I should build a wind turbine. My goals for continuing this are to attend Allan Hancock College to complete my general education adn if they have programs for the kind of career I want to pursue, I will surely be taking those classes.

The literature that I think we read were only the ones from the literary analyses. But I enjoyed the novel Robinson Crusoe and a few others I can`t seem to remember. But I know we read lots of articles from online and printed sources such as that New York excerpt and that Medium story or novel or whatever it may have been.

Now the presentations that we all saw of each other were great, and those were a really wide range of topics and studies that most of us presented. To connect them all is a challenge but here I go.
Daniel`s dish presentation was really good in visual terms and in flavorful terms. To connect his, I think that Tiana`s and Summer`s presentations fit the bill (haha, dinner service pun!) because first Tiana was talking about leaving for the European countries soon after high school. Well, Italians are really passionate about having family all around the table with enormous amounts of hearty delicious food. Not to mension that they cook all their food 99.999% of the time from scratch. And that is alot of "amorĂ©" for me to see. going back to the family idea fits Summer`s Masterpiece PowerPoint slides because she was talking about how humans interact with each by having fun. Well, when ever we have parties here in the USA, without any kind of alcoholic beverage thrown into the picture, we tend to enjoy each other because we feel comfortable with our most closest loved ones, in thick and thin. I am going to use one of her videos she used when they were off at Grad Nite at Disneyland/ California Adventure. Her friends were very happy together because they know each other, and more importantly they were off at Disneyland Resort to enjoy  each other while we have the time. I think now that I look at it, some of our presentations are about time, and carpe diem, and just not letting materialistic items get in our way.  Just like Valentina`s presentation where she gave an example of how  we tend to react when a smartphone, like an iPhone, is dropped and everyone stops and stares at you with a range of thoughts. On the other hand,  if someone actually falls themselves, there is no one to value it and help you out.

I am positive my journey is complete because I have come along way from the first few days of August. According to Dr. Preston, I was shy at first. Then I had alot more to say in his class and on this blog, even in this essay as I am getting this done. I was a  rookie on my blog at first. Like anyone else, I also had to learn the digital ropes of blogging and start getting the hang of it if I was going to use it the entire year. Of course with the help of some of my classmates from abroad Righetti and other sources on the internet I was not only able to create this incredible blog but also placing a second blog to my name. Now I can say that defeat the "three-headed monster" in front of me. What will happen to these to blogs? Right now there is no set  idea. What will I be doing? Like any great heroic Western movie, I will probably be riding off into the metaphoric sunset into a new chapter in my life. Again thanks to all of you out there popping into my blog and making it the blog that it is.

Request for Response

http://drprestonrhs14exposcomp.blogspot.com/2014/05/request-for-response-gun-rights-are.html#comment-form

First of all, let me pay my condolences to the victims of the shooting at UCSB. May your spirits be somewhere free of all this bureaucracy and (in my opinion), turmoil, and disorganization of our very government.
Now let me begin. our government needs new laws set in place to control all sales of guns. second, straighten out the fundamental amendments our founding fathers set in stone metaphorically speaking less than 200 years. Why less than 200 years? Because recently our rights have been put down by our government by saying it is unconstitutional to rally and say what you have to say to your country leaders. I feel like we are paying the price while Mr. Obama is taking a stroll to a little league game!! And we can`t seem to fix our tremendously high national debt. Lack of leadership, organization, and excess use of speeches. Tell us what really is going on DC, don`t smother it with frosting, tell us where our money is going. Anyway, now that that is off my chest, the fact that a student studying for the legal rights sector (aka being a lawyer) of the economy, and having issues with his physique, is no reason for anyone to have seven guns and about one thousand rounds of ammunition. Let also clarify that probably the school itself did not create an inspection warrant to check his particular dorm room.

BOTTOM LINE: GET YOUR THINGS TOGETHER WASHINGTON! We are the new generation and do not want to have to deal with this bowl of &$@!# (fill in the blank if you wish!!).

Something New to Learn from...

The gist of the Wikipedia piece of text I chose basically shows how a hydroelectric dam was built near where my dad grew up. Now it is the city's major power supply, providing about 1000 watts of power, more or less.

Beginnings 1 and 2

Today, May 7th, Eddie Martinez has murdered his girlfriend. It occured at about 8 o clock in the evening. He is in regional jail cell 0001, thinking about what he has done. The motive for throwing her over the pointy rocky cliff is still very vague. All that is known is that she suffered a penetration deep enough to take her life away. She also suffered some cuts, bruises, a concussion to the brain, and some severe skeletal damage to the spine and hips.

After being in jail for over 30 years for murder, Eddie Martinez is on trial again for possession of drugs on his property. Martinez had been adviced by the late deceased girlfriend to not sell drugs on the street with her. He didn't listen and after coming back from a run, Martinez had originally adviced her to keep quiet, she refused, and ended up throwing her off of Shell Beach Cliffs.
UPDATE: Martinez has just been proven guilty and will serve 50 years to life at a penitentiary

TODAY IS (NOT) A HOLIDAY

Today is the fifth of May, year 2014. Today marks an important historical battle that took place in the Mexican state of Puebla. Now, I have an issue and I found this issue when I read the journal topic today.
Background Info:
Apart from Wkipedia's Cinco de Mayo description, Mexico celebrates it as if it were a Veteran's Day in November. There is no drinking and it is very well respected throughout. Here in the United States however, it has stirred up some controversy because sometimes people can be racially active. I remember a few years ago, college students dressed up as pregnant Latina females and guys dressed up as blue collar workers to say the least. Even the beer companies have started to open its advertising doors toward this holiday so people can get drunk.

On another note, I am happy that my country is looking toward other cultures, not just pushing them aside like a deck of cards. This country should be a melting pot alot more richer than when the colonists first arrived. Final words: respect the holiday as if it were you're very own historical event and don't abuse it please. I am being as most sincere and heart felt as I can be. Thank you.

Continued Connections

Yesterday, before sleeping in for the night, I was wandering around the Web and I stumbled upon places that are sustainable and are found in urban areas. Follow this link to find out for yourself. Not only are there new designs being imagined yo reduce the carbon footprint, there are also food places being conscious about where the food ingredients come from, just like Chipotle.

DESIGN TIME!!

So the last week before Spring Break, the architecture group and I went to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. (See related post below). W e learned how an open space or a redesigned space can be hacked to achieve maximum potential for the students. So, in our English class, we have been rearranging our desks just like the students at the university, but our desks are made at different heights when placed next to each other. The functionality of having the desks like that is so we and the future generations can start looking at each other and start to collaborate with each other. then we were thinking on placing some desks on the perimeter of the room, or maybe that is just my picture of the room. We would get together at the center and discuss what has to be talked about and then we would go to the outer desks.

California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo Field Trip Experience

My trip to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo wqs so much fun. I had a wonderful time with Mark Cabrinha amd his architecture students. They are so close knitted that it is almost different from the high school scene. The activities that we did were take a survey. Then we all reunited and started answering Mark's questions, such as what is your vision of the learning environment of the 21st century to be? (You may leave comments below to answer the question). Anyway, the five of us high school seniors split up into groups with the college kids. Philip and his partner had an interesting building design. This is how their assignment worked: you choose or were given a design from one of many groups from previous years. Then it is you're job to figure out what to do with the inside of the building, such as turning it in to a school or an open office space. I suggested to Phillip and his friend to elevate the structure and include a flex ground floor for a cafeteria or a lobby. Since they want to show the skeleton of the building it would look a bit more artistic to show the concrete beams and the metal that holds the design together. What I like about the studio is that at the center there is a conference type of table that has a melanine surface where you can write with a dry erase marker. The thing that I also noticed was the fact that they didn`t mind the mess on their desks. It was truly the studio of choice for these students because they overhauled the existing classroom and started from "a blank slate". All around I had a wonderful time.

Five Steps to Success Before Graduation

Steps to take to finish with success, no regrets, and get the grade desired:

1. Go to Cal Poly for inspiration

2. Start gathering supplies

3. Build the desired plan

4. Work and finish it

5. Practice presenting the masterpiece

6. Create a PowerPoint to go with the presentation

7. Present

8. Wait for grades and graduate !!!!!!

In-Class Essay

I define the success for myself by seeing myself having a good job and a solid financial foundation where to rely on. I believe I truly am an entrepreneur because I am putting myself out there in the cyberworld where everybody sees everybody else.

The skill set of the entrepreneurs that we learned about this week are way more far fetched than what anyone in our class is doing. They live and breathe Silicon Valley. Those entrepreneurs, 80/20 ratio, have the financial backing of family members who have worked for Google or Microsoft. I am pretty sure that also somebody from East Los Angeles can create an application straight from their device. You also need to have that drive and passion that will get you to your goal.

The thing I am creating right now is a world where we use pure, clean energy derived from nature's power. My goal is to create a small wind turbine prototype. The engineers who are going into apps instead of the backbone of technology, I think they are in both ways behind me and in front of me in terms of leadership. Behind me because they are not doing anything good with their careers. It is almost as if they  spent thousands of dollars in college unnecessarily.  On the other hand they are in front of me because they are working on some of the coolest and best apps for the iOS and Android devices.

Seeking a Mentor

Dear Mentor,
I am Alfredo Medina. My current residence is in Santa MarĂa, California. My interests are the environment and saving it from total collapse. I am currently working on a blog, not only for school but as a hobby. Building a wind turbine and a solar panel would be something I would like to achieve.

The skills and abilities I need are anything to do with steel manufacturing and electrical work. Maybe taking a trip down to a wind farm would be nice.

I know very well that fossil fuels are being extracted from the mines and fields at breathtaking rates, amd are accelerating global warming as we speak.

If it is okay with you, I would like you to be my mentor. Thanks for your time and consideration.

ALFREDO MEDINA-ACEVES

Raising Digital Awareness

The blog does get some traffic from around the world. The statistical number of pageviews I receive are starting to change again. The heart beat is going once more. I think what really grabs the audience's attention is the detail to the visual aspects such as the colors and the content, if it is a good read to recommend to someone else.

This Is Only a Test

I am thinking on creating some kind of working model that works with the sun or the  wind. Or I was just thinking a PowerPoint was fine for the class. For the food, I don't know what to bring. Any ideas? I will take any.

Up to You

I believe that my work is entrepreneur quality because I have really pushed on the main blog and letting it speak for itself, and stand tall and proud. It is also the fact that I really worked on my first ever blog in  all my school career.

Crossroads in My Life Right Now

I really feel attached to this article that I read because at first, I really didn`t know what Blogger was. I was ready to jump into Ms. Johnson`s British Literature class and continue textbook. But now that I got to experience Dr. Preston`s class, it has opended my eyes that there are people out in the world trying to see who is the next greatest Internet sensation.

At the beginning of the school year, I really didn`t know what was going on and thought he was going to use the textbooks for assignments and just post the work online. I was at the center "roadway" with Should and Must. Must because I had to finish the class with an average but good grade. Should because it is always a real good experience trying something new and you never know what might happen.

S' Wonderful (and Unforgettable) Moment

Something wonderful has happened lately. Last month, I had filled out an application for the Doodle 4 Google Scholarship worth about $30,000 for myself (if I win) and around $25,000 to $30,000. Wish me luck. Also, I sent in the application for the local community college here in Santa Maria. So everything is going smoothly, so far. I hope to accomplish more scholarship applications before my high school career is closed.

Top Lawmaker Proposes Fuel 'Tax'

This brief news segment is from the Santa Maria Times newspaper, edition from February 21. As it appears on the newspaper.

The state Senate leader on Thursday proposed a tax on consumer fuel purchases of gasoline, oil, diesel, ethanol, and natural gas, with the money raised diverted to mass transit projects and households making less than $75,000 annually.

The plan by Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, D-Sacramento, would not create an additional tax, however. Instead, it would alter how money is raised and spent under a provision of California's landmark 2006 greenhouse gas emissions law, known as AB32.

Environmental and business groups immediately opposed Steinberg's plan, and Republican lawmakers questioned whether it could pass the Legislature.
It would impose an estimated 15 cents a gallon carbon tax on fuel next year, offsetting an indirect tax that will be imposed in 2015 under the existing law that helped establish the nation's largest carbon-trading marketplace.

Resources of the Day

Ok folks. So I haven't been able to get to my resources because I had to deal with a very important project for Health class that I will be posting in the Showcase of Schoolwork page of my blog. Later on today I will be posting some resources. Thank you for understanding and keep on following me.

So, it has been a while since any personal information about myself has been put out there. I come from a Hispanic family, particularly from Mexico. The family is very cool and helpful and very funny. Everything that involves the richness of my culture is what I love. Its history, the vibrant colors, the go-to perserverance of the citizens of Mexico.

I recommend it because it goes over the different types of resources we could use without harming the environment.

Some Ideas Working for this Weekend's Essay

I have a few ideas. One of the topics is looking up the background behind your choice of career. Another is some kind of topic where we research our own topic off topic od what we are going to so in the future. A third would be to choose a theme that we learned throughout our academic career and try to find some examples in the real world.

Wednesday, February 19, 2014

The Choice

1. A choice refers to the fact that you can either make a really beneficial decision or one that can really damage you.
2. It is sometimes a forced decision that is made because of family economic troubles and you feel the need to help out, but you find the easy "route" when in reality it is a really windy rollercoaster ride.
3. The author uses the word "poison" in the first line because he refers to his daughter`s meedications for chemotherapy as flavorless and that it kills non malignant cells.
4. His daughter wants to play with some toys meant for kids 8 years and older because in her head she believes she is old enough for that and I blame the medicine that the doctor prescribed.
5. If I might not live to my 30`s, I would at least finish my studies and work for a few, and retire with whatever money I have.
6.
7. Suffering isn`t a necessary condition of life because society has placed that feeling upon us with problems such as economics, work, and government.
8. The author`s way of writing the essay.

renewable energy vocabulary #2

1. Renewable energy-energy produced by nature with mechanical systems to produce electricity for human usage. Examples are wind, solar, geothermal,  waves, rain, and tides.

Technology Has Changed My Life and Academic Career

My experience with technology has been very good. New technology has always excited me because I would want to know what new feature is on our mobile devices,  such as Apple's fingerprint detector on the main button. So far I haven't had a problem trying to create work for school assignments or just hanging out on my laptop or tablet or smartphone. The reality had sank in when I realized that technology can be used inside the classroom, not just in the offices. Once creating this blog, the possibilities are endless and can help you create your own profile on the world wide web. Right now I am up to 1,070 to 1,080 pageviews so far. My website has been seen all around the world. So having that strong profile on the Internet will truly help me stand out for something such as a job interview or a college entrance assignment.

Ready for Launch... 3, 2, 1,... Blast Off !!!

My passion is to learn about renewable energy and environmental engineering,  and maybe getting into the work force of installing solar, wind, geothermal, and hydroelectric power systems. To accomplish this, I have started up a blog about renewable energy, environmentally sustainable, and being green in general. I want to " feel the awesomeness " by June, so to accomplish this feeling, my work will have to be very well written and in very good condition that would deserve an A+. Impressing others would be a good feeling also by declaring that I have two blogs and that I have my progress shown for.everyone to see. The second blog.I have going on is a reality because I am making it is really good work. The network would be peers from class, the public, and experts from college professors and other highly regarded leaders.

Spring Literature Analysis #1

ROBINSON CRUSOE BY DANIEL DEFOE

This timeless tale is written in the 1700s, where a shipmate is stranded on a deserted island. luckily, he makes it out alive and refugees himself in a cave he fortifies for about a year and a half. he self sustains himself by planting his own crops and creating his own supplies out of what the land provided to him. In his other two adventures out in the ocean, Robinson Crusoe first gets shipwrecked and decides to go home to London.  The second time he gets enslaved by a Moor, escapes and becomes a plant owner himself. This third time, Robinson was transporting slaves when he really hits all time low. He gets shipwrecked somewhere in the Caribbean Sea,  but the rest of his crew is "perished". This last time this fateful event occured is where my edition of the classic adventure begins. He arrives on the deserted island and the first thing that he wonders about is where is he going to get fresh drinking water, and then through the story he tells us avout his adventure domesticating animals and growing crops. Towards the end of the book, he returns home and takes a companion he had found on the island with him. Once returning home, he recieves notice that he is rich and that his parents have passed on. He marries and has 3 children.

In my opinion, the theme of the novel is to not let a tragic event bring you down. You should use that lesson as a reflection and an advantage to yourself because, for example, he is on the island's shore the first day he arrives. Robinson Crusoe doesn't start weeping about how he is going to survive. An intuition came over him and he started to rewrite his life on the island, by fending for himself. Another theme present in the novel is how he has control of the island now for himself. He grows crops such as corn, he domesticates the wild goats for meat and dairy products, and he even builds the outer part of a house. This could also tie in with the theme of having necessities, such as having food, water to drink and bathe, and a well built shelter. Self awareness is very present in this novel because Crusoe writes about his adventures in a journal and is also keeping track of how many days he has been on the island, not necessarily keeping a calendar with all 12 months in it.

The proposal I have in mind is to create another blog where I show my interests to Dr. Preston and to the whole cyberweb. It will probably include some of the written work from my Environmental Science class and some other writing I may come up with.

Gold in the Mine

For those of you that are late at night trying to finish research papers, I have some tips. Try to take breaks, eat some food so your are not yawning, and make sure you are studying somewhere you know you will concentrate.

UPDATE : FEBRUARY 20, 2014
I have just found a website that has the vocabulary words that I need. Maybe two websites actually

Life After... some distant future

The vision I have for the future is to start working getting out of high school and attend Allan Hancock College. I see myself more as an independent person, but also helping out my family with parts of the paycheck that I will be earning. I also see myself driving. In about 20 to 30 years, I would be really old, still working, but in my career now, not some grocery store chain.

Spring Vocabulary #1 Quiz Review

I believe I did not do good on the quiz because I really didn`t study the vocabulary words for it. Although they were only ten words to know, I think I could`ve done a better job by reviewing the words the morning before or the Sunday afternoon, or even both days.
